Jack Snipe at Brockholes Quarry, Lancashire UK.

October 2002 - A rare opportunity!

Low water levels at Brockholes Quarry in mid-late October, provided the rare opportunity to watch, at length, the highly secretive Jack Snipe feeding fully out in the open, on the narrow muddy-fringe of the south and south-western corner of the main pool.

The bird was very well received by local birders, and for some, provided their first ever views of this species on the ground. Several Common Snipe were on hand for comparison.
