October 12th 2005.  

New Laithe Farm, Newton (SD699487): The Yellow-browed Warbler present for the 6th day, though remaining very elusive. First noted today at 09.35hrs, calling frequently, but with no further sign after 13.00hrs. Also, 1 Brambling, 1 Peregrine (MkB). Birders are invited by the Breaks family to look for the bird. Please drive down to the Farmhouse where there is parking for c10 cars and follow onsite directions. Further parking arrangements will be laid on if required. Directions: The site is N/NW of Clitheroe, west of the B6478. The entrance to the farm is where the B6478 bends to the right at SD704487.

 New Laithe Farm, Newton (SD699487): The Yellow-browed Warbler present for the 5th day but remaining very elusive. Todays sightings: Heard at 09.20hrs, seen at 09:50, 11:15, 14:10, 14:30, 15:45 and 16.15hrs (MkB, MB). Also, 1 Common Crossbill flew over (MkB).

New Laithe Farm, Newton (SD699487): The Yellow-browed Warbler present for the 4th day but remaining very elusive, todays sightings: Seen at 08.10hrs, 08.55hrs, 1055hrs, 11.45hrs and 14.00hrs (MkB, WB, JW, BS, RH). Also, 1 Jack Snipe, 6 Redwing (MkB).

October 9th 2005.  

New Laithe Farm, Newton (SD699487): The Yellow-browed Warbler present for the 3rd day but remaining very elusive, though seen "a few times", inc. a good 30 second view at 09.15hrs (MkB) and again at 11.45hrs (MF) with no sign after last being heard at 13.45hrs in windy conditions (MkB).  Also, 1 Chiffchaff, 6 Common Crossbill > S at 09.25hrs, 5 Swallow > S, 1 Dunlin briefly on the wader scrapes (MkB).

New Laithe Farm, Newton (SD699487): The Yellow-browed Warbler present for the 2nd day, but very elusive. Todays sightings: 10.50hrs: 'heard' only, 11.10hrs: 'heard' and seen briefly, 11.30hrs: 'heard' and seen briefly (MB, BB, MkB, PGRi), 12.20hrs: showed very well briefly, calling twice (PGri, WCA, MkB), 16.05hrs: Seen and heard briefly only (DO, DBi). Also, 6+ Goldcrest, 2 Grey Wagtail, 1 Peregrine over and 2 Common  Buzzard. Vis: 8 Swallow, 12 Mistle Thrush and 18 Pied Wagtail all > south.

October 7th 2005.  

New Laithe Farm, Newton (SD699487): A Yellow-browed Warbler present this afternoon, though very elusive (Mark Breaks et al). Found on call in the observers garden at c12.00hrs, the bird showed itself to the finder shortly after, followed by three brief sightings, none located on call: at 14.30hrs (MkB, JM, AAC), again at 16.15hrs (MkB, JM, BJ) and finally at 17.40hrs associating with a Tit flock (GWo).

Barley Green, Hapton (SD791301): The Hobby present in the area for the 18th day, seen at 10.30hrs perched along the edge of the first coniferous plantation (BG).  Directions: From the A679, take Hameldon Rd (next to the Hapton Inn, SD793309). Drive up until the Conifer plantation appears across the field on the right. Note the track is very rough for a stretch just prior to the suggested parking area. A public footpath runs across the field towards and through the wood. The bird also frequents the area between the two plantations.
