Pendle Hill (SD803415): 11.15hrs: Up to 80 Snow Bunting in tight active feeding flock just west of trig point and down the Ogden/Barley track to south west. Also, 2 Raven along south edge and around trig point from 10.00-12.00hrs + 1 Red Grouse (Dave Fisher).
Upper Rivington Reservoir (SD621147): Drake Ring-necked Duck present early PM at least (Birdguides). View from the causeway on Horrobin Lane, SD622142 or from the public bridleways that run adj to the res.
Fishmoor Reservoir (SD697260): 2ad Bewicks Swan flew in at 16.00 -16.30hrs at least. Also, 2 Goosander and 1 G.C. Grebe (WCA, Gary Waddington).
Lower Hodder Bridge area (SD707397): River: Kingfisher, Grey Heron, Dipper, 2 Goosander, 2 Moorhen, 7 Mallard. Adj wood: Nuthatch and Tawny Owl. Adj farmland: 20 Redwing and 2 Fieldfare (PGre).

An unconfirmed report that Waxwings have been seen in Blackburn, at the Weir St. Pay + Display Car Park, SD682277, in recent days (per TD). Can anybody confirm this please?
Red Kite: A reliable report that the bird was seen in the Boarsden area, between Dunsop Bridge and Newton, today by a local, cSD677504 (per JM).
Champion Moor (SD750530): A male Hen Harrier seen nr Higher Edge Farm at 16.00hrs (CTr).
Rowley Lake, Burnley (SD862327): 1 G.C. Grebe, 12 Mallard, 8 L.T. Tit. Also, the two hybrid Geese resembling White-fronted Geese still present (NR).
Lower Black Moss (SD827418): 2 'sparring' S.E. Owl present, 11.20hrs at least, viewed from roadside (SG).
Longridge Fell (SD640395): SD646400: 1 Short-eared Owl, 1 Stonechat, 3 Siskin, 2 Common Snipe and 2+ Kestrel (LP, PB). The S.E. Owl/s (up to 2 birds) show well, close to the road, and have been in the area at least a month (per LP).

Pendle Hill (SD803415): 45+ Snow Bunting 1/2 mile SW of the trig point, SD802407, until 11.10hrs when flock flew towards summit (JM). Note: The stepped footpath above Pendleside Farm is described as rather difficult due to icy conditions this morning. There is also fresh snowfall on the summit.

Dunsop Valley (SD653524): The Red kite flew south down the eastern side of the valley and over the end of Beatrix fell at 11.55hrs, presumably heading into the Hodder Valley. Red Kite: over Middle Knoll, Whitendale, SD657545, 12.00-12.15hrs at least (JM) and at 14.20hrs, when it again appeared over Middle Knoll, circled over Brennand and eventually flew S over Whin Fell down the W side of the Dunsop Valley, disappearing from view at 14.30hrs. The bird was fully feathered and not scruffy in any way. Also, 1 Common Buzzard, 2 Raven over Whin Fell and, in the gorse bushes by the junction of the two valleys, 1m Stonechat, 2+ Linnet (AAC, EO). Please note:The road up the Dunsop Valley to Brennand and Whitendale is private and there is no access for unauthorised vehicles. Birders are advised to park in Dunsop Bridge and walk or cycle up the valley to the Middle Knoll area

Also, 1+ ringtail Hen Harrier, 2 S.E. Owl, 1 Brambling, 2 Green and 4 G.S. Woodpecker in the area. 1m Goldeneye and 6 Tufted on the res (MkB, WCA, GHo).
Champion Moor (SD750530): 1 S.E. Owl early pm (IC, HS) and a ringtail Hen Harrier at 15.55hrs (MkB).

Red Kite: SD677504: Seen at 08.30hrs over Boarsden, between Dunsop Bridge and Newton. Also, 3 Common Buzzard (MkB). The Kite was also seen here on 20th Nov, and is described as a scruffy individual with missing wing and tail feathers (JM).

Also, 200+ Wigeon, 60+ Pochard, 13 Tufted, 2 Goldeneye, Teal, 1 Little Grebe, Green + Gt. spotted Woodpeckers, small numbers of Brambling in the area and 1 ringtail Hen Harrier (MkB, JW, WCA).

Waxwing: 2, poss. 3, feeding on Sorbus at West Close Rd ,Barnoldswick, late morning (KS). No sign in two hours, early-mid-pm (BJ). Directions: Follow main Rd from Kelbrook to Barnoldswick, go into town centre then turn right on to Skipton Rd, before turning left where signs indicate Waste Transfer Station. The birds were feeding around Transfer Station car park, but come and go as there is an aggressive Mistle Thrush.

Pendle Hill (SD803415): 09.45hrs: 6 Snow Bunting, 150m SW of trig point. Also, several sightings of ones and twos at various locations (JM).
Stocks Reservoir (SD730560): Two visiting birders reported Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, (at dead tree 100 yds from old barn, 1/2 mile past hide). I went and could hear something tapping (as if feeding, not drumming) but could not see the bird responsible. Also present: 22 Cormorant, 33 P-f Geese >E, 45 Wigeon, 140 Teal, 58 Mallard, 1pr Pochard, 1m Tufted, 1rh Goldeneye, 1rh Goosander, 4 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker (heard). Plenty of birds, mainly Coal Tits at the two feeding stations.(AAC).

Also, a ringtail Hen Harrier seen twice in the area (WCA, JW).

Despite the foggy conditions, 32 Pochard, 4 fem/imm Goldeneye, 3 Tufted, 1 G.C. Grebe and good numbers of Teal and Wigeon were noted. 20 Coal Tit at the feeding station (located between car park and hide) (MB).

Waxwing: 1 found freshly dead (within last 24hrs) as the result of a collision with a window at a Longridge house. The location of the corpse being only c1/2 mile from Beacon Fell Caravan Park where a sighting occurred on 23rd Oct, so presumed same individual (P. Bainbridge).

Parsonage Reservoir (SD700320): No visual sightings of the Richards Pipit all day, but one observer (GHo) was confident that he heard the bird call twice around mid-day. With the Landowners permission, the field in which the bird was frequenting yesterday (and also adjacent fields) were walked by several observers late afternoon with no success, just 20 Meadow Pipit and a Wheatear. The female Greater Scaup still present. 1 Twite and 2 Swallow flew SW (GHo).
Brockholes Quarry (SD585305): A poss Jack Snipe, 10 Common Snipe, c150 Lapwing, 2 Goosander, 3 Shoveler, 3 Goldeneye (WB).

Parsonage Reservoir (SD700320): The Richards Pipit relocated in fields on the SE side of the main reservoir, spending 2hrs from mid afternoon in the field at SD701318 where it showed well on+off, but can also range all fields adj to both the lower and upper reservoirs (see y/days sighting) (WCA, MkB, JM, AH, DBi, BJ) . The Pipit has been initially located on both days as a result of it flying of its own accord. When it decides to fly it usually calls frequently and is locatable with patience by scanning the fields. Please do not enter these private fields. Parsonage Rd is a busy road with cars often travelling at speed along the causeway. Please park with care. - A Rock Pipit flew N/NE at 15.00hrs (WCA, MkB). Also, a female Greater Scaup present for the 2nd day, 52 Canada Geese, 19 Mallard, 4 Pochard, 7 Tufted, 2 f/imm Goldeneye, c175 Lapwing, c2000 Starling, 5 Fieldfare, 3 Redwing (AAC, EO).

Parsonage Reservoir (SD700320): A Richards Pipit seen in flight only at 14.45hrs, the bird calling several times (WCA). The Pipit flushed from the field closest to the jcn of York Rd and Parsonage Rd at SD701322, between the upper res and York Rd and was seen to land in the area of the trig point to the north of the upper res at SD702325. Despite searching by 5 observers until 18.30hrs, there were no subsequent sightings. Also, a Greater Scaup, 3 Tufted and a fem/imm Goldeneye on the upper reservoir, 8 Wigeon on the lower reservoir (JM).
Colne (SD890400): An immature Gannet seen flying SW over the town early evening (KS).

Did anyone else see it today? 1 Water Rail showing very well on+off in the SW corner reedbed, 2 Common Sandpiper, c60 Common Snipe, Peregrine, 2 Sand Martin, 30 Siskin flew south, 15 Pochard, 25 Tufted Duck, 11 Gadwall, 7 Shoveler, 30+ Teal , 45 Wigeon, Peregrine, 2 Sand Martin, 30 Siskin flew south. A Nuthatch at the feeding station is a decent record away from the nearby woodland (WCA, WB, LP).
